We will be closed from 16th July to 25th July for summer holidays. You can still place orders online and of course we will do our best to catch up on the backlog as quickly as possible upon re-opening on 26th July (some slightl delays can be expected). Please note that we will also be closing for a further week in August - dates to be confirmed. Two weeks off??? Well, what can we say - we need the break but as always we'll do our best to minimise the disruption and get the orders moving again asap!

So my brief appearance on Dragons' Den Ireland was to coin a Bertieism, "even briefier" than I'd imagined. I was on and off in about 10 seconds flat!! You are told in advance that the edit might mean you never get on at all - they're looking for TV entertainment and my presentation on the day was very much full of facts and figures rather than televisual gimmicks. You live and learn. Lesson No. 1 - know your audience. In the case of Dragons' Den, it's not the 5 Dragons but actually the producers and viewing public you need to consider. That said, I was disappointed with the way they portrayed me as valuing a "concept" at €1m. The valuation was always bonkers - I concede that but I wasn't about to just hand over 30 to 40% of my business on a plate. And that's the point - The Canvas Works has a successful trading history - it's not just an idea in my head with no track record. Unfortunately this didn't come over in the few seconds of footage. Nevertheless, going on Dragons' Den has been a huge boost to my business planning going forward and a lot of positives have come out of it, not least of which has been the incredible support I had from friends and family - they were great and even came to the pub to watch and laugh with me last night. Onwards and upwards - you have to keep dreaming and keep working away, that's what being in business for yourself is all about.
So our very brief appearance on Dragons' Den airs this Thursday, 18th March. I'll be blogging more about this over the next few days but for the moment all I can say was that it was a superb experience and as a business we have no regrets. Going on the Den is a nerve wracking experience but regardless of the outcome, you really learn a lot because if you prepare correctly, you will consider aspects of your business that you probably haven't considered in depth enough previously. Coming out of it now, The Canvas Works has a whole new direction, new ideas for development and big plans for the future which we believe will be genuinely exciting and successful. For anyone considering going on the show, I'll have loads of insights and behind the scenes information on my blog which goes live very shortly. Watch the episode and send me your feedback.
Thanks, Patrick Ryan (Managing Partner)
Our office move into much smarter new premises took place yesterday but we'll be picking up the pieces for the next week or so. Moving office is a major undertaking but we're delighted to be able to make the move and are really looking forward to settling into the new place. It's a two story purpose built commercial unit in Kinsale Commercial Park, with a dedicated loading bay for deliveries. And because it's on two floors we can separate out the production from the office space, making the whole operation much slicker and comfortable for us and for customers who visit us in Kinsale. Thanks to all our customers for their patience over this period.
This year we are anticipating a deadline of 14th December for Christmas orders but as with every year we are urging customers to order early in order to avoid disappointment. You'll also get the best value by being organised and getting in early as we actively reward those customers who can help us out by getting their Christmas orders in ahead of the rush. Check back here regularly for news of updates on Christmas deadlines - they can move depending on volumes.
Thanks to all our customers for continuing to support small Irish businesses like ours through 2009 - it hasn't been an easy year for anyone but we look forward to bringing our customers new products and services in 2010.

Yes, we know we did take a few days off already back in July but all work and no play makes The Canvas Works very strung out and stressed so we're off for our proper holliers this week, through until 19th August. Orders placed on-line during this time will be processed upon our re-opening and deliveries will start again on 24th August. Gift Vouchers will continue to be processed in the normal way.
Launching a new e-commerce site is a fairly big undertaking but we're delighted with the results of our sister site, The Frame Works. A complete online picture framing service along with photo to canvas, photo frames, photo printing, acrylic printing, aluminium printing and much more is available now at www.theframeworks.ie The new site takes a different approach from The Canvas Works in that customers begin the whole process by uploading a photo. Once that's done, you can select your particular type of printing - canvas, photo paper, fine art paper, acrylic, aluminium etc and then decide what type of frame and finish to add. It's all pretty clever stuff and the real time visualization of frames is a big step forward in comparison to what's available on The Canvas Works. We hope customers enjoy the new site and we'd really appreciate feedback so just drop us a line either through The Canvas Works or via The Frame Works.
If you're one of those lucky people for whom taking a holiday means going at half speed the week before so you can ease into it, spare a thought for the rest of us. While you spend more time than usual browsing facebook at work, we're actually working more hours just so we can take a few days off. So whilst we will technically be closed from Wednesday 15th July to Friday 17th July inclusive, in our book this is actually just a "temporary re-alingment of working hours" as opposed to a holiday. But that's probably splitting hairs. In any event, bear in mind that orders placed over the next week will be subject to a few extra days processing time whilst we kick back in beautiful Kenmare, Co. Kerry for a few days of well-earned rest and recuperation.
We are working hard on the launch of our new picture framing service and hope to announce details on the site very soon. We will be offering a wide range of new products and services including printing on photographic paper, custom framing, printing and mounting on aluminium, acylic prints and more. We'll also be offering a wide range of contemporary ready made frames at affordable prices. Contact us for more details or to make a price enquiry.
To kick off the new year, The Canvas Works will be offering some incredible special offers and deals exclusive to our mailing list customers. If you haven't joined our mailing list, sign up now by visiting our Mailing List page and just punch in your e-mail address. It only takes a minute and you'll get fantastic discounts and special offers direct to your in-box.
The current deadline for orders to ensure guaranteed delivery before Christmas is December 16th but PLEASE NOTE: this deadline may be brought forward depending on order volumes. It is an exceptionally busy time of the year and our priority is always to ensure we do not let any customer down so we constantly keep our Christmas deadline under review and will bring it forward if we think we are dangerously over-subscribed. Therefore our advice is to order early and keep checking the website for updates on last orders news. Please also note that an order is not a valid order until it has been placed and paid for (either through the site or by phone). Conversations or e-mails regarding orders cannot be counted as firm orders so to avoid disappointment, please make sure you finalise and pay for your order asap! Many thanks for your co-operation and continued support.
Hot on the heels of our appearance in the Irish Times Christmas Gift Guide last week, we will be featuring on the Seoige Christmas Gift Guide next Friday, Dec 12th. We've prepared two Warhol style prints of the Seoige sisters which look really superb and we're delighted to have been asked to make up the prints. The Warhol style pop art prints make a perfect gift and are available as a single panel, a couple or multi-panel for the entire family!
Congratulations to Joe Houghton whose first solo exhibition was a great sucess. Running throughout the month of November at the Lucan Library beside the Superquinn Shopping Centre in Lucan, Joe's opening night was attended by a great crowd including dignatories from the Council. Joe's exhibition features a range of landscapes from Lucan and further afield (including some spectacular ones taken in Kinsale) and some stunning panoramic shots of Dublin City Centre by night. The Canvas Works was delighted to sponsor the event and tailored a unique printing package specifically for Joe's requirements allowing him to show a wide variety of canvas prints at an affordable price. If you are a photographer interested in doing an exhibition, please contact us about our special "Exhibition Rates".
Christmas is fast approaching and we are already seeing the usual pattern of increased order volume as the more organised shoppers plan their purchases. Now is definitely the time to make your order as you will get the best possible deals - especially if you join our mailing list which regularly includes some superb discounts and offers not available anywhere else. We anticipate a final deadline of 12th December for Christmas orders so to avoid the last minute rush and some stress and worry, get your order in early!! We'll have updates on deadlines as we come closer to Christmas - remember to check if you do plan on leaving it late.
We've lined up some cracking discounts this month at The Canvas Works. Original colour, black and white and sepia have all been discounted by at least 15% - but often by way more. In particular, we've been overstocked in 80cm and 90cm stretcher bars so to clear these particular sizes, you'll see one-off price reductions which offer superb value for money. Take advantage while you can as these prices will not last long!
In October, we're offering free delivery on selected Pop Art prints. Warhol 4 Panel, Warhol Couple, Warhol 6 Panel and Warhol 9 Panel all have free delivery at the moment. Come back to our news pages regularly for more updates on which products are currently carrying free delivery. We will also be extending this into our limited edition ranges as we come towards Christmas.
We've just launched a funky new collection of images based on Icons of film, music and sport. Each piece of artwork is available in a limited edition of just 100 prints on canvas and can be colour-matched to your interior to maximise impact and effect. We've had a lot of enquiries in the past from customers looking for iconic images of Hepburn, Monroe, Best, Pele and more. So we hope this collection of images goes a long way to meeting that demand. All the images have been created in-house. If you can't find an image of the icon you're looking for, just ask and we might be able to create one especially for you.
The Canvas Works offices will be closed from Wednesday 4th June to Monday 16th June for our summer holidays. You can still order your photo to canvas prints, limited edition art on canvas and digital wallpaper prints through the website - but please allow until Friday 20th June for delivery. Orders placed while we are closed will be processed upon our re-opening on June 16th.
Our new and improved digital wallpaper section of the site goes live today. Customers can now browse a selection of images by category - much the same as the art on canvas part of the site. As we add more images, we can increase the different categories so if you have any suggestions, please get in touch. As part of the improvements, you can now get a quote immediately on-line simply by entering the dimensions of the wall you wish to cover and once you're happy with the size and price, you can add the whole order to your basket and proceed straight to check out.
Regular visitors to the site will notice quite a large addition to our collection of limited edition prints today. The new images come courtesy of Imagefile - one of Ireland's leading stock photography and image hire companies - and give our customers access to a truly massive collection of images that cover almost any imaginable topic. We're particularly pleased that Prisma have given us a selection of their images to show on the site spanning landscapes, abstracts and a great collection of urban shots from New York, Paris, London and Sydney. If you can't find what you're looking for on our site, take a visit to www.imagefile.ie and do a search there and we will be able to print your chosen image on canvas.
This year, The Canvas Works will be attending various fairs in Dublin and Cork in order to bring our stunning canvas prints and digital wallpaper to a wider audience. First up is the Art Ireland Spring Collection taking place at the RDS from Thursday March 27th to Sunday March 30th. Come and visit us on Stand A5 to view a collection of prints from our various exhibiting artists, as well as a sample of digital wallpaper - the amazingly versatile product from Digimuara that allows us to cover any sized wall with a single image. We're hoping to have some of our artists present on the weekend to give customers a chance to meet and talk directly with the artists behind the images. See you there!
Our last day for Christmas orders (not including gift vouchers) is Sunday, December 9th. Orders placed after this day cannot be guaranteed for pre-Christmas delivery. We will of course do our best to process orders placed after this day in time for Christmas but we don't want to disappoint anyone so if you absolutely need your print for Christmas order before Dec 9th. Postal gift vouchers can be ordered up to Friday 21st December.
We've just added some really cool new Pop Art photo to canvas styles to the site which should give those looking for something different for a Christmas gift some great ideas. We've been thinking about launching a Kid's range of photo to canvas prints for a while as so many of our customers' photos are of their children. What could be better for your kid's room or for the playroom? Our Pop Art Deluxe range of photo to canvas prints are a real indulgence - the illustrations are created through a combination of hand drawing and vector-based software to give a very different finish to our Lich-Style canvas prints. And fans of Julian Opie's iconic illustrative style will really dig our Opie-style tribute photo to canvas prints. If you think you've seen this style somewhere before, just dig out your Best of Blur album and hey-presto...Opie won several awards for this album artwork and it's no surprise because what looks simple is actually very difficult to achieve. We hope you like the new pop art photo to canvas styles!
Our latest range to join the collection are our Finger Print style photo to canvas prints. These really look amazing and give you a canvas print that is literally as unique as you! Simply produce your own finger or thumb print using standard fountain pen ink or water paint, then scan it in or post it to us and we do the rest. You can choose from a very wide range of colours or why not do a his and hers to give your wall a truly unique stamp. You can add your signature to the print for an extra personal touch. Classy, funky and very different - which is what The Canvas Works is all about.
The time has come for us to take our summer holidays. Thanks to all our customers for keeping us so busy this summer - the one upside to the weather being so bad was that at least we didn't actually want to be outside. We'll be off from next week - September 3rd to September 10th inclusive. Orders placed during this time will be processed on our return - so there will be about a 7 day lead in time on our return to clear the back-log. Please don't place an order if you absolutely need your print before 14th September.
Thanks to Niamh Hennessy of The Examiner for covering us in the "Talk the Talk" section of the Examiner today. Patsy's Kitchen in Kinsale were very happy with us for singing the praises of their lemon meringue. We're in danger of becoming obsessed by this pie - honestly, it's unreal. Don't leave Kinsale without trying it. Yum, yum, yum.....
The Canvas Works is back in the press again today, this time on the back page of the Irish Times Business supplement. We're featured in the new Under The Radar feature, along with a recent Lich-style print we did of An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern. We've offered it to him to auction for charity, but he hasn't accepted yet. Comon Bertie, do the decent thing - sign the print and raise a few quid for charity!!
You see something cool and you just want to tell everyone about it. This week we found out we're neighbours with funky Irish T-shirt company, Hairy Baby. They're based just around the corner from us in Kinsale and have invited us around to have a look at their operation. You can check them out on-line at www.hairybaby.com - we love their Coola Boola T's. Go take a look and tell them we sent you.
If you're planning on visiting the Taste of Dublin food fair at the Iveagh Gardens next weekend (16th,17th June) make sure you visit the Rhodes D7 restaurant, Gary Rhodes' first venture in Ireland. We've created a giant 140x97cm canvas print of the interior of the restaurant to give visitors to Taste of Dublin a perfect idea of the interior of the restaurant. Keep an eye out for the Deborah Donnelly Cow painting in the image - it's a beauty!
We are delighted to announce that one of Ireland's most successful artists has joined The Canvas Works website. The Sunday Times magazine has described Sharkey as a "bankable artist" while Hot Press referred to him as Ireland's first art superstar. See our Art on Canvas section to browse the vivid and bold Sharkey paintings now available from us as beautiful giclee canvas prints.
The Sheraton Luxury Spa Resort on Fota Island, Cork is Ireland's newest luxury destination. We're proud to announce that they asked The Canvas Works to create three stunning 1 metre x 1 metre canvas prints as part of the interior design of the new resort which is sure to be a huge success in 2007. Working with Huguenot Design in Cork, we had the three large prints turned around and on-site in under a week. If you're pampering yourself in Fota Island this Spring, keep an eye out for them!
The Canvas Works E-commerce site goes live! We're delighted to unveil our brand new fully secure e-commerce site. The new site is a major development in The Canvas Works' business, giving us the ability to offer a more dynamic and innovative product range to our customers. Designed and developed by FUSIO, the new site features a wider range of Pop-Art Photo to Canvas styles and allows us to offer photographers, artists and illustrators their own gallery space for selling canvas prints of their work.
